Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
This Privacy Policy applies to the iPhone app UWGrade and to this website. It explains which data is processed, where that happens and what rights you have.
In short: UWGrade edits your photos and videos on your iPhone. We don't run our own server, you don't need an account, and the app contains no advertising, no tracking and no analytics. We don't receive your photos or videos.
1. Controller
The controller responsible for data processing under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is:
Jan Waßnerc/o MDC#1568
Welserstraße 3
Bayern

Germany

2. What the app processes on your iPhone
UWGrade needs access to features of your iPhone. iOS asks you before the first access. You can withdraw any permission at any time in the iOS Settings under “UWGrade”.
- Camera and microphone: for photos and videos you take in UWGrade, including sound. The app saves the captures to the Photos app on your iPhone.
- Photo library: UWGrade shows your photos and videos so you can find and edit underwater shots. When you ask it to, the app saves results as new files, applies a correction to the original (reversible in Photos), marks favorites or deletes media you select for deletion.
- Image analysis: Detection of blue and green water, scenes and color casts runs on your iPhone. No images are transferred.
- Metadata and location: When exporting, UWGrade keeps the metadata of the original, including a saved capture location. In the export settings you can choose “Without Location”; the app then removes the location from new exports.
- Local app data: The app stores settings, edit recipes, presets, export status and analysis results in its own storage area on your iPhone. Depending on your iOS settings, this data is part of your iCloud or computer backup; Apple manages that. When you delete the app, iOS deletes this data.
- Copies of camera captures without a subscription: If you shoot with the UWGrade camera without a subscription, the app also keeps a version without the watermark in its storage area on your iPhone. After a purchase, the app uses it to replace the captures in Photos; Photos asks for your permission first. These copies never leave your iPhone, and iOS deletes them with the app.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the app features you use). We as the provider don't receive this data.
3. Subscription and in-app purchases
You buy UWGrade Pro through Apple's in-app purchase with your Apple Account. Apple handles purchase, payment, renewal, cancellation and refunds. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details.
The app asks iOS whether a subscription exists and until when it runs (product, purchase date, expiration date, transaction identifier). iOS stores this information on your iPhone so that the subscription stays valid without an internet connection until the end of the last known period. The button for restoring purchases asks Apple for your purchases again.
From Apple we only receive aggregated sales reports without information about individual people. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR. Processing by Apple is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
4. Crash reports and diagnostics
The App Store version of UWGrade contains no diagnostic log and sends no crash reports to us.
If you turned on “Share With App Developers” in the iOS Settings under “Privacy & Security > Analytics & Improvements”, Apple provides us with crash reports and usage statistics that don't identify you. You control this solely in the iOS Settings.
Test versions only (TestFlight)
Test versions distributed through Apple's TestFlight keep a diagnostic log on the iPhone. It contains error messages, memory use, file sizes and types, edit values and crash data from iOS. Identifiers from the photo library appear in it only shortened and hashed. The log is limited to 2 MB, older entries are removed automatically, and you can delete it in the app. It only leaves your iPhone if you send it yourself using “Share”. Apple's terms also apply to TestFlight; among other things, Apple passes on your feedback and crash reports to us.
The legal basis is our legitimate interest in an error-free app (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR) and, if you send us a log, your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
5. Support requests
If you email us, we process your email address, your name if provided, and the content of your message to answer your request. We delete the message once your request is resolved and no statutory retention obligations apply.
The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR when your request concerns the app, otherwise our legitimate interest in answering (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
6. This website
This website is hosted on Firebase Hosting, a service of Google Ireland Limited, Gordon House, Barrow Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. When you open a page, Google processes technically necessary data: IP address, date and time, requested address, amount of data transferred, browser and operating system. Google uses this data to deliver the site and to protect it against attacks. We have concluded a data processing agreement with Google.
This may involve a transfer to Google LLC in the USA. Google LLC is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, for which the European Commission has determined an adequate level of data protection (Art. 45 GDPR).
The website sets no cookies, uses no analytics or advertising services and loads no fonts or scripts from third-party servers. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in a secure, working website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). Learn more in Firebase's privacy information.
8. Retention
Data in the app stays on your iPhone until you delete it in the app or remove the app. We delete support emails once they are resolved, unless a statutory retention obligation applies. Data held by Apple and Google is subject to their retention periods.
9. Your rights
Under the GDPR, you have the right to:
- access the data we process about you (Art. 15)
- rectification of inaccurate data (Art. 16)
- erasure (Art. 17) and restriction of processing (Art. 18)
- data portability (Art. 20)
- object to processing based on legitimate interests (Art. 21)
- withdraw consent with effect for the future (Art. 7(3))
- lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority, for example where you live (Art. 77)
Because almost all data stays on your iPhone, you can exercise most rights yourself: in the app or in the iOS Settings. For everything else, write to us:
Email: support@uwgrade.app
10. Children
UWGrade is not specifically directed at children. We don't knowingly collect personal data from children.
11. Changes
We update this Privacy Policy when the app or the law changes. The version on this page with the date shown above applies.
